About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, "It's a ghost!" But Jesus spoke to them at once. "Don't be afraid," he said. "Take courage. I am here!" Then Peter called to him, "Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water." "Yes, come," Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water towards Jesus."
Matthew 14:25-29
As I listening to this song--Walkin' on Water--it got me looking into scripture about Jesus and Peter walking on the water. And I was struck by this question. Why would Peter even attempt or think about wanting to walk on water in the middle of the storm?
Earlier in the day they witnessed a miracle (the feeding of the 5,000) and yet the word says in Mark, "Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed, for they still didn't understand the significant of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in."
Mark 6:51-52 NLT
Was this Peter's way of saying, "Are you really the 'I AM' that we all think you are. If so, tell me to do something crazy--like walk on water! And by the word of the Lord, Jesus said, "Yes, come."
Sometimes I think God is waiting for us to do the same thing--the crazy thing. When know one else would understand, yet demonstrates you faith and therefore obedient to Him allowing Him to show off what He is capable of instead of what we are capable of. He is would He says He is. He is the 'I AM.' Will we take the leap? Do we believe H
e can keep us afloat when we take the leap?
